Each bag is rated for its  comfort  and  extreme temperature suitability

 

 
   
TEMPERATURE   RATINGS

sleeping  bags  keep   you  warm  by  trapping  and  holding  layer  or  still  air  next  to  your  body .The  temperature  rating  of  the  bag  is  determined  by bag  construction,  size  compared  to  the  users' size ,amount  and  type  of  filling  ,bag  shape  and  the  addition  of   thermal  efficient  design  features.

You  may  be confused  about  the  temperature  ratings  given  to  some  sleeping  bags .

the COMFORT level is the  temperature  at  which  an  average  human  being ,using  a  hooded  bag  plus  inner  sheet , pyjamas or  thermal  underwear  and  sleeping  on  an  effective  mattress  such  as  self  inflating ari mat  or  similar , will experience  optimum  comfort  The  EXTREME  level  is  the  temperature  at  which  an  average  human   being ,using  hooded  bag  and  the  same  clothing  and  mattress  as  above  will  experience  cool  conditions  and  may  want to  add further  insulation . Unhooded  bags are  rated  at 5  degrees  higher  than  hooded  bag .

Please  remember  that  many elements  determine  your  ultimate  sleeping  warmth  including   your  own  metabolite, your  food  intake  prior  to sleeping ,  shelter , sleeping  mats  etc.
